This 293,000 square foot concert hall was designed to look like a ship with its sail at full mast. Achieving this look meant there would be no flat surface on the building’s exterior. Each of the 4 foot by 10 foot stainless steel panels were field formed by hand as they were attached to the steel stud back-up system.
Unique Challenges
No straight lines/all stainless steel elements curved
Extraordinarily difficult geometry
Significant seismic design considerations
Solution
Larson combined its experience with seismic design and curtain wall engineering to provide a design that holds the panels securely in place while providing the installers with the details needed to field-form each panel.
