New gymnasium and classroom addition constructed for an existing school facility. The existing parking lot was modified to provide additional parking and a new drop off/pickup area.
Unique Challenges
Site was very confined with a limited amount of green space to provide for storm water treatment
Due to the increase in impervious area at the site, additional storm water treatment was necessary in order to comply with the requirements of the City and Watershed District
Close proximity of a large wetland required more stringent measures for storm water treatment
Grades for a portion of the site prohibited the storm water for that area from being directed to the new storm water treatment pond
Solution
To provide storm water treatment and control the discharge rate for the portion of the site that could not be drained to the storm water treatment pond, a rain garden was constructed to treat and infiltrate a portion of the storm water before discharging to the City’s storm sewer system. Larson designed the retention pond was with a filtration shelf to provide additional treatment of the storm water before discharging to the wetland area.
