12,660 square foot addition of a basement, classrooms and educational spaces, and upper level guildhall. Renovations were made as required to connect to the existing structure. Design included HVAC, lighting system circuiting, utility and general service area lighting, fire alarm system, empty conduit system for voice and data cabling, plumbing systems, fire protection, and utility connections to within 5 feet outside the builiding wall. A new forced air system was also added to the existing spaces.
Unique Challenges
As an addition to an older, gothic style church, the MEP/FP systems needed to be designed to harmonize with the soaring spaces typical of gothic styling.
Solution
Extensive coordination with the architect and structure was performed to minimize the impact of the MEP/FP systems on the aesthetics of the various building spaces. With this same thought in mind, the HVAC extension into the existing areas was also designed.
